CONSTRUCTION BLITZ!
Saturday, November 6, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Have you worked on the construction crew before? Or have you ever wondered how a Rose Parade float is built? We need you! Come join us Saturday, November 6 from 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Barn for a "Construction Blitz”!

For those of you who have worked on the construction crew before, there will be a list of projects ready to go, awaiting your expertise.

Sierra Madre is also eager to welcome new members to our construction crew. Whether you have years of welding and mechanical experience or none at all, we hope you'll join us to see if float-building is the hobby for you.

Try your hand at creating some of the finishing touches for the float. We will be bending pencil steel and welding it into the shape of palm fronds, bougainvillea vines and citrus trees. You might also pitch in and help to prepare the float for flowers by covering it in foam.

Everyone will have an opportunity to see the domes mounted on the mission bell towers. Once the domes are in place, we'll drive the float outside the barn and test the hydraulic lift mechanism that will raise the towers 30 feet in the air. We'll also test the animation systems that operate a dozen giant butterflies and a burro-drawn cart.

Sierra Madre is committed to creating a fun, family-friendly environment where all are welcome. With an all-volunteer crew Sierra Madre has built five award-winning floats in a row. We hope you'll join us Saturday, November 6 and help us keep up the good work.
